Yup. They were huge, can’t remember the makes as they belonged to club members. I do remember across a 20m hall, someone sunk The Hood at the other end of the room in the first turn. Came back into the hall and there were little golf tees all down the length of it. It used to be fun trying to guess how the torpedos would spread and try and sail between them

I have seen that done brilliantly, and catastrophically. I would use crossfire from a flotilla of six and have a follow up of six more to exploit the disorder that the first wave called, followed by light cruisers and flotilla leaders to finish off wounded birds.

Oh, happy days. I would have trouble spending all day on the floor today.

We used to have huge games. We’d spend more time out the hall waiting for the umpires to measure and lay down the shots than we did playing. It made for great tension walking back into the hall. They were great fun, I’d be tempted to see how well they’ve aged.

I loved the initial pedantic rant, and the asides about language, especially as it was coupled with the use of things like 122mm instead of the internationally accepted 122 mm.

Mal Wright used to have both fleets for Jutland, light forces and all, in 1/3000, all hand made, used for the 60th anniversary refight. 300 odd ships made for quite a display. i'll have to ask him whatever happened to them all.

Thirty years ago, we were using 1:300 models and Fletcher Pratt rules in a massive hall on the floor. It’s the last time I enjoyed WW2 Naval wargaming

We did that in the old SEEMS club and yes, great fun and the only way to play 20thC naval. I've seen it done on 3 tennis courts in Ilford. These days I think I’d need one of those garage mechanic trollies to do it now.
