Nah! Rubber buildings and Merit trees is too old school for me. I suspect Charles Grant's balsa wood houses will do me. Not sure about trees ........ sponge perhaps.

Surely the Airfix thatched cottage must make an appearance?

I never developed a soft spot for the Airfix buildings. All a bit too plastic for my taste.

Actually I think your trees look great in that picture, they stand out from the table nicely. It might be fun to scratchbuild some ACW buildings for this.

Hmmmm. I bought twigs, card flower pots and scourers in the pound shop. That's the trees taken care of, I thought. Now I'm in two minds again.

I just felt the bases weren't quite 'old school', it's a trade off though between modern aesthetics and the old school vibe. I'd probably look at 'bottle brush' model railway trees on plain bases of card or individually placed onto a felt 'wood/forest' template.

My scenery will come from the pound shop, balsa wood, or off cuts of timber from Thurrock Hardwoods.

Mark D has convinced me ( easily as it happens) to have painted MDF hills.

Roads and rivers are likely to be................still contemplating that.

My MDF hills were are all free off cuts.



For roads and rivers I am going to use thin cardboard sheet which costs about 80 pence each and cut roads and rivers as required. I am thinking a little bit of blue tack at the ends will keep them in place on the table.

For woods same method, using a shade of green cut, to represent the outline of the wood. As I am not yet a poor pensioner I can afford Merit trees to dot around to represent the wood.

Of course if I came across some Bellona river or stream sections I would use these.

There is a company that makes similar products to Bellona.
