Board/Miniatures games

Post by tim.w »

I have an urge to splash out on a board game, one with miniatures and have narrowed it down to:

Doom.
Blood Rage
Star Saga (Mantic games)

Star Saga is looking like a contender due to the solo play aspect. Any recommends from anyone?

Given your urge to splash out, something by Ann Summers would seem appropriate.

Have you had a flick round Shut Up, best boardhame reviews ever..

https://www.shutupandsitdown.com/games-page/

You can filter miniatures games and they are very good reviewers.

If you are interested in Solo play then Mantics The Walking Dead: All out war is worth a look.
I don't know much about Star Saga, other than it didn't grab me when it was a Kickstarter. Not sure it really qualifies as a boardgame either, much like TWD :)
Does it have to be a miniatures game?
Great games to play Solo include:
Sub Terra
Plague Inc.
Firefly

I haven't really been into Walking Dead, stopped after season 2 and telly themed games dont feel like they have much longevity. I'll check out those other suggestions though. I think I'm sold on Blood Rage, just need wifey to learn it so I have a willing opponent.

Ipad doesn't seem to like the Shutupandsitonthis website, but managed to read the Blood Rage review.

Re: Star Saga, yes I'm inclinded to say its theme is a bit weak, I dont think it would hold my interest, there are better dungeon crawler type games out there. But it can be played solo apparently?

I loved Necromunda when I once played it on holiday and only just discovered it was out again. Will have a look.

Will be getting the new star wars game when it's out but that could be as late as March so not holding my breath until its finally here.

TWD game is more based on the comics than the TV Series. It is basically just a nicely thought out Zombie game.
Blood rage has superb looking figures and I've seen people buy it just to get those to use in other games.

I've just found out that Plague Inc. may be OOP but Amazon still has copies. It's an interesting game as you play the role of a bacteria or virus and have to use the environment to mutate and infect as many people as possible. It can be played solo or multiplayer.
If you're looking for a miniatures game with small numbers, Gangs of Rome is worth a try although it's only available as a pre order for January at the moment.

Perhaps just use these months to save then as I’m sure it will cost £1100000000 for all the boosters and expansions!
