15mm Napoleonic

Post by tim.w »

I've been really enjoying my little 15mm ECW diversion and thought it might be time I paint myself up some Napoleonics for DbN too. Now, I would go with the Blue Moon figures from Old Glory but they sell in bags of 30 foot or 15 cav and I won't need those quantities. Where do folks for for their 15mm Naps? I've used Museum Miniatures for my ECW and they're cheap and cheerful enough but I'd prefer a slightly better casting since I won't need many. I'll still bulk out the foot with Blue Moon I think but won't be needing 4 bases of guard or 10 bases of lights. I've heard AB are unavailable and thought they might be a little big anyway.

Looking to do Russians and French first. Likely be a slow burn project after I've finished my ECW.

If I was doing it purely for myself and from scratch, AB all the way. The new owner has opened, so should be working fine.

They are 18mm though.

AB. There's also AB and if you can find them, AB are nice as well.

AB from now in for me though I did like the old minifigs French in campaign dress now OOP
I have some OG Duchy of Warsaw and Spanish and they're not bad but faces are not great
OG horses though are awful and would totally put me off OG now though I did buy some Hostrian Cavalry many years ago

When I get home Tim I'll try and post some old comparison figs
QT and gladiator games aren't bad but nothing comes close to AB

I would also go with AB, tho there are some nice figures in the Warmodelling range as well, and the two ranges match each other well. Stonewall carries them in the UK. Kind of ABs poor cousin, and sometimes rough around the edges, but they paint up very nicely. Believe they come in packs of 8 foot and 4 horse.

Thanks all, I need 4 horse on a 40x30mm base to be DbNable. So, worried that 18mm is too big?

Seen that Colonel Bill is selling some unit packs for £15 each.

If you want true 15mm the older Battle Honours sculpts (not sure who does them now but they are still around) were sculpted by Mr Barton too and are rather nice. I think I ditched all of mine a couple of years ago though. Minifigs are also well worth a look. :( I'm still trying to walk calmly away from the possibility of 15/18mm Napoleonics as "back in the day" I had a small British Army, and massive Russian and Saxon armies.

the problem with BH these days is the quality
I bought some a few years ago from the US - mainly for French YG and the quality was poor

Let me know what you'd need to build your DBN armies -- I've got some excess Warmodelling, OG, and ABs - some Brits, Russians, AH, and Frogs. If they suit your plans I'm sure I can part with them for the cost of postage.
