Surely that's him on the square base with the numbers on?

Kein Plan überlebt den ersten Kontakt mit den Würfeln. (No plan survives the first contact with the dice.)

It was a valiant and gallant charge, a real all or nothing gamble and it paid off, thus proving that when the chips are down he can lead cavalry with the best of them. I am not in the least bit miffed that he cut down my brave infantry.
A great weekend's wargaming, with Gary's wonderful collection, and his terrific hosting and patient and knowledgable umpiring. And in very good company, it doesn't get much better.

Rules? You ask me what rules do I use. No, I don't do rules.

Well, that was good fun. A re-imagining of Quatre Bras using assorted SYW figures resulted in a narrow victory for the French. It really could've gone down to the wire - 2 of the French brigades were 1 casualty away from breaking, which would have reversed the result. EB's cavalry charge really did turn the battle and made a decisive difference. A great bunch of players made the whole event great fun to organise. We have a new LAW device to manufacture - a 'smugometer'. Much allied smugness in evidence all day Saturday and until about 11 this morning, after which EB grabbed the controls and turned it up to overdrive, culminating in a 'follow me' order onto the flank of a British battalion poised to deliver the coup de grace to a French infantry battalion in the centre of the field. Tim and Peeler took it with good grace - only every 3rd word starting with f. Great fun guys, definitely look to do another next year.

Oh, and highlight of the day - Peeler stabbing himself on Iain Mac's lancers. Sharp pins in fingers. Then EVERY word began with a F!

Thank you chaps for a brilliant weekend. Loads of laughs and nail biting moments. And thank you Tim for being such a splendid opponent.
Gary is a top host and his 18thC collection is a wonder to behold. I hope I get invited back.
