Why is it, that after spending many hours, carefully painting etc a figure & gluing it to a bare base, it is profoundly improved by the relatively simple process of "terraining" the base?

Snot. I base on magnet and paint bases Humbrol grass green, along with the steel unit trays.

Does the word count include the stammering?

The Queen’s dead? I missed that on the news. Still, Charles must be happy.

In my humble opinion, at wargaming distances the only features that really matter are the bases and the flags.

Are you suggesting that the regimental number on the buttons of 25mm Wellingtonics is not visible?

Re: Philosophical question of the day: basing
Nah, I was reading on PMT about a chap who painted the wrong number on the buttons of 25mm. Revolver, library, chap knows what to do.
Re: Philosophical question of the day: basing
An opinion with some merit, I think.
Seeing I stuck some photos up in the gallery of my foray into the SYW reminds me of a conversion I did. There are no Prussian cuirassiers in "my" scale, so a fairly complex series of modifications of existing figures was needed. The pièce de résistance was the making & gluing of pig tails to the short-haired original figures. Very fiddly work. And not a single sod ever noticed.
Yes, flags & bases, Iain.
