5. Use a 3D printer to make a custom sabot base that allows you to obtain all the advantages of 1-4.

For 28mm I've tended to do 1. i think 2. Is a good idea too. A nice row of based up guns of multiple batteries is a magnet for EB's cavalry.

I think separate guns and crew is a shiny thing and better for the big scales where space needs to be saved by close crewing.

Just stick the bloody figures to the base and leave the gun loose....
I have never understood why anyone would base artillerymen singly or on sabot bases, they just fall all over the place

Now more importantly there's all this talk about proper drill poses and basing
So what's all that then?

Magnets are your friends. I drill out sabot bases, insert magnets, and base napoleonic and awi foot and artillerymen on pennies so they stick nicely.
