HMS Priapus' Flying Bridge
Re: HMS Priapus' Flying Bridge
Lovely, that red on the hussars really pops out - what is it?

Paint, I would imagine.

That sounds like a foundry colour.

Thanks, all. Finished the red on the 3rd and final squadron today, now only the armor left to finish them.

That's all very sophisticated all them reds. I'm still struggling to get a good highlight colour for my current Vallejo cavalry brown base and flat red mid shade. I'm painting 1745 redcoats so it's not just an abstract question.

Re: HMS Priapus' Flying Bridge
I frequently pick three of the six, skipping intermediate shades and use them like a Foundry triad, especially on small figures. If I'm really lavishing attention on something needing more finesse, I'll do some additional blending. Used them to smooth out and coffee staining on my SP2 British figures also.
As much as I like the Foundry triads for convenience, the flip lids lead to a lot of paint wastage and they dry out. Once mine are gone, I'm not getting more. As I get to the end of a pot or triad, I've been matching them to Andrea or Scale 75 shades and replacing them. If I were starting a paint rack from scratch these days and could only pick one line of paint, I'd probably go with S75, especially for metals. Those are really hard to improve upon.

Re: HMS Priapus' Flying Bridge
So what colours do people use to highlight red? I've tried various combos, but it inevitably ends up too orange or too pink.
Re: HMS Priapus' Flying Bridge
I go through three shades from burgundy to mid red to postbox red
