It struck me that it handled big formations easily and quickly, the rules were very straightforward and games zipped along while still offering interesting dilemmas and decision points. As Jeremy says, they had variable movement combined with a quick and bloody H2H system and seemed to reflect ACW very well - Neanderthal and I used to play a couple of games every Easter for decades and my memory of them is overwhelmingly positive. If I ever succumbed to 15mm Nappies, they’d be my first choice of rules - but bear in mind I like simple rulesets.

Contrary to Purple’s recollection, I’ve never played the Nappies version. It’s so sad to see the memory going in one so young, but then, it’s why they call it early onset dementia.

Picked up a PDF of Lasalle from Sam's site. So far so good. If I go with sort of NB basing it has units about the right size for me and it will play ok on a 4ft square table. I have F&F somewhere, will have to have another look at it.

One rule change I would suggest for Lasalle is to only allow one unit to melee a unit per facing. Lasalle allows two columns, side by side, to attack a unit in Line at the same time. Result Columns win.

I would suggest 'Newbury Fast Play Napoleonics'... If I was a complete sadist...

Another vote for F&F. I was going to suggest Age of Eagles (the Napoleonic variant). I gather the first edition had some issues, now resolved by the second edition.

Well I have ordered a couple o small units, one British and one Portuguese. Hopefully they will fit on a 20x25mm base if not I will use 25mm squares.
