I thought I'd smuggle the whole sharpe series in under the radar and sort it by date. After all, there is only so much wanking that a man of 61 can do.

I went off Dambusters when I found out what a total shit Gibson was.goat major wrote: ↑Thu Apr 30, 2020 2:35 pm Most of my obvious ones are above.
I'll go against the trend. Waterloo is great. For all it's flaws it attempts to tell the story of a battle rather than some made up hero quest or love interest.
Bridge Too Far - a film about a complete operation. Probably the best military operational film - even if you argue with some of its takes on what happened
Dambusters - not just a war film (great at that though it is). Its a story of problem solving, dedication, leadership and bringing teams together to achieve a perceived impossible mission. Almost a metaphor for the British war effort.
Lawrence of Arabia. Just because it looks amazing
Bridge too Far, is a bad film, the amount of added to the story is quite large, but what totally ruins it is the guards tanker saying 'we are waiting for the infantry' when the reason they had stopped was no food, fuel or ammo left after 4 days continuous fighting, including the whole of that day to do what armour hates, taking a town. They did not stop because they wanted to, they had nothing left to give.
Lawrence is, far more than a war film in so many ways, and I never even considered it or Zhivago in this catergory. Although both go in my tens films only list.

Is that the submarine film with Matthew McConaughey?
Top quality. 10/10 would recommend.

Surprised Downfall has not hit yet.

I didn’t like the twist at the end.
