There are two interesting books published in the 70's written by Mr F.E. Perry on wargaming with 54mm toy soldiers. The first is a collectors item these days, I bought my copy for £30 about 8 years ago. His second book is usually available on ebay for about a tenner including postage. They're only little A5 size booklets. The author takes us through his Methods of gaming and campaigning and there are plenty of charming photos of a hodge podge of scratch build and make do wargames scenes.

I've been brewing an idea to replicate his campaigning in the same style. So something like a series of missions linked together to form a campaign with imagi armies of units of around 6-12 figures found and foraged from my own collections. The period would be roughly 1914-1960 in terms of what equipment and figures to use and imagi nations could cover our usual Albion, Murican, Europan and various Eastern and Colonial protagonists. Laserbade rules would work really well to be the engine behind the missions, it should be solo friendly enough to allow people to run their own games during lockdown and if I'm the only one bothered Points creation of forces will limit what can be available for each mission/scenario, this should include vehicles. The emphasis is on the narrative to develop the campaign as we've seen in Kumbahyah. The fun could be in throwing together the units for missions, digging about in buckets of old toy soldiers and raiding ebay, as well as the odd toy shop and collectors market.

It would be nice to have a supporting blog of FB page too. Or just use those that already exist. It could eventually feed into a big toy soldier bash at a well known venue sometime in the future should others be interested?

I was going to just email Tim my ideas but there may be other like minds especially amongst the Dogs of War veterans of Kumbahyah!? So thought I'd post this up.

Frustratingly my collection is at my Mum's and unavailable for now but it doesn't stop me planning and ebaying!

Strangely enough, I've been wondering about 54mm/1/32 stuff, but I thought perhaps early 19thC. Maybe even Napoleonic.

Any of those would work but you don't get jeeps. I have a lot of Napoleonic if there is anything you need?

I have WW1 German infantry, guns and a tank in 54mm. For some reason. I can't remember why I bought them.

I remember those books they used to be in my local library - the pictures were great but I think was there something confusing about the rules? (like they weren't really explained ?)

Anyway I remember them fondly. So I could be up for this
