Does that have the fully history of Hyboria in it? It was quite groundbreaking really.
I looked at his rules when I was deciding what to use for my project as I wanted something suitably old school. They are quite straightforward but I think the melee was a bit clunky (dice fig vs fig or something like that ?) he did revise them and reissue them sometime later in the 70s as Peltast & Pila which I think used WRG (dba) style basing

Re: The Pointy Stick thread
I am very tempted by that one, does it have the pics of his lovely flats armies?
Re: The Pointy Stick thread
No, it doesn't give you a full history. Most of the book deals with WWII gaming by Lionel Tarr. It has Charles Grant's critique of his rules which does suggest a better melee method could be used. Thats what I would change, introducing a DbA style +/- modifyer at least. It would work for very simple quick games with beginners, kids, wives etc.goat major wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 7:09 am Does that have the fully history of Hyboria in it? So Tim, please explain why you want to melee with beginners, kids and wives?
And is that all at once?
And would this be after a missile phase where the contents of the kitchen drawers and cupboards are thrown at you first in the latter case?

Close grappling with wives is fine, but not in front of the husband and kids, unless you are being paid to perform in front of an audience.
Re: The Pointy Stick thread
I've noticed at shows that Tim likes to game with beginners kids & their wives. It's just a thing that he has.

At least it frees the old man to go round the show.
Re: The Pointy Stick thread
Anyway, I managed to get some time on the painting desk tonight and cracked on with some Bedouin type light cavalry for my Seljukish army.
