what's next

Post by ochoin »

I’m putting my SYW endeavours to one side (I’ve temporarily run out of figures to paint!) & looking at a potential late June WW2 game- Italy in 1943.

To my surprise, I’ve discovered that I’d put quite a lot of semi-complete British material to one side about a year ago.
This includes 3 X Priests, a PSC Churchill (in pieces) and the crews for an Achilles SPG and a bren carrier. Needless to say, all these items would be useful in a game where the Germans are sure to have a Tiger and a couple of 88s in their roster.

( I’ve also dug out an MDF watchtower that’s been sitting around for several years. The plan here is to make it a Roman one (for an Ancients’ game) by adding a veranda, painting it & building a palisaded compound around it.)

The world of wargaming is truly varied.

Did Tigers serve in Italy?

If you could only use Tigers when and where they actually were they’d only sell about 5% of those they do. Though you could have a game where every German tank is a Tiger up to the point someone shoots at it when it is replaced by a Panzer 4 or 2 or whatever. Or maybe even a Tiger. Which can then either break down or run out of fuel.

Evidently not. I don't think the Achilles SPG was present, either. My WW2 gaming isn't, sadly, bound by strict historical accuracy. Indeed, the Italian Front thing is just an excuse to use my NW Europe Brits against my pal's North African Germans. So....apologies.

It wasn't a criticism, it was a genuine question (so thanks for answering!).

Needless to say, no problems. I have a little knowledge, interspersed with vast amounts of ignorance & am really appreciative of learning from the expertise of others. I may not have invented the "Dumb Question" but I've probably taken it to new heights.

The Achilles (strictly M10IC or M10IIC, Achilles was largely a post war name). and the Churchill arrived in Italy later than 1943. Change the date to 1944 and all those inaccuracies disappear. ( FOW but the background is accurate https://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=3099)

Is it just mud or are those Churchills in an odd mix of sand and green?

I think Heffalumps served in Italy.
