Thanks folks. These are going to be my more traditionally attired legionaries so they have the standard bronze montefortino of republican issue. I am currently embarking on legionaries with gallic helmets which would have been iron rather than bronze. As for shields, I prefer to keep republican equipment plain and serviceable but the twin cartouches identifying legion and cohort just break up the design pleasingly. Since we don't know that much about shields of the era I'll go for aesthetically plain and easy to paint over showy wings anyday.
