Whereas I'm extremely unlucky, my record is a dozen consecutive rolls of 1 which led to my entire army crumbling to dust in the first turn. I used half a dozen dice including two of my opponents, that game is still known as "Brown Trouser Hill".

However, when I'm not being unlucky I usually manage to pull off a coup d'elan or two and generally fair better in games where die rolling is secondary to asset management. In multiplayer games I am a better general than lieutenant.

That's a slice of bad luck I would be proud to own, young badger; I certainly can't beat it, but a friend did match it in an AWI demo game at Warfare about a decade ago, in which he was the Franco-American army, I was the Crown Forces C-in-C.

Being completely unfamiliar with the rules, I was totally out-played in the initial "march onto the table" phase and my odds-and-sods found themselves facing his French division and the Cotinental Corps of Light Infantry. At this point, I was happy to resign and go shopping, but my mate had gone to such trouble to set the game up, I decided to bite my tongue. With great relish, he announced that he would dispense with firing and go straight into "stick a bayonet in them" mode. We were both being assisted by our respective sons, who were about 11 or 12 at the time; he handed his lad the dice: 1,1. Oh dear, well come on then, roll for effect: 1,1. Ah, rout off nearest table edge. By chance, this took that unit past all of his other units, forcing them to test in sequence. Several more low rolls (and some language really not fit for the ears of 11 and 12 year olds) later, his entire elite wing was streaming off the table, having neither fired, nor received, a single shot, nor having poked, or been poked by, a single bayonet.

The fact that we are both still good friends is at least partially down to the fact that I have never, ever reminded him of that day.
Kein Plan überlebt den ersten Kontakt mit den Würfeln. (No plan survives the first contact with the dice.)

I have a funny relationship with dice, I tend to streak, so I wildly go from, get those dice off him, to, how many 1's in a row?
