Game Mats

Post by goat major »

Who do people recommend for game mats ? I’m after the fleecy sort of mat.

I’m aware of :
- Cigar Box. Got one of these and pretty happy with it. Don’t seem to be available via North Star in the UK anymore so direct order from the states I think
- Deep Cut
- Tiny: some reports of slow service ?

Any other recommendations or experiences ?

As far as I know, it’s only Cigar Box who do fleece? The others do cloth or mouse pad?

As daft as it sounds, you could buy a fleece and get a company to print it. I know they do that in the states. Not sure who would do it here

What’s the difference between fleece and cloth as described by gamemat companies? Is cloth more of a canvas or more like a bedsheet ?

I have one from Deepcut that is like a very starched bedsheet. Very different to my Cogar Box one

Ah ok.i don’t think I like the sound of that as much as a fleecy one - I want to put smoothed hills underneath and the fleece works really well for that.

I only bought that because they do hexes and it was for my Algy/BTH games. Any future ones will be Cigar Box, I think they’re the best. Have you seen they do double sided ones now?

I useTiny wargames cloths - excellent. They don’t do fleece.
Currently been waiting 3months for an order for a mousemat one. Told there is a problem getting mousemat. Anyone heard of such a shortage?
Quality of goods is good but advise caution.

Yes I saw that. Unfortunately they don't do grids on the double sided which I would have gone straight for!. Looks like you can only order direct from the states now too.
