Wolfpits
Wolfpits
The Austrians at Reichenberg were able to build quite elaborate field fortifications.
These included abatis, entrenchments etc & wolf pits.
I'm not entirely sure what a wolf pit is: a shallow hole with a spike in it? For cavalry or infantry?
But, most importantly, how do I make them? I have not a lot to do between now & our next SYW game so I can spend time making them. Any hints as to how?

Re: Wolfpits
A slight embankment surrounding the base, with a dark centre, suggesting depth, showing the tips of sharp wooden spikes?

Sounds like a reasonable representation.
I know when to go out
I know when to stay in

Re: Wolfpits
They sound a lot like the punji pits used by the Vietnamese.

the good news is that they are often concealed so they don't need to be modelled....

I think's it's when your underarms get so manky it makes passing canines howl. But I could be wrong.....

I'm beginning to think that SYW Austrian engineering must have been pretty good.
"the good news is that they are often concealed so they don't need to be modelled...." Maybe, but maybe like a modern minefield you *want* the enemy to know they're there. So evidence of fresh earth might be a dissuasion? Abatis & Chevaux de Frise are quite visible after all.

Nothing like a foosty oxter to impress people & dogs.

Haven't heard "oxter" in many a year - the Baroness used it a lot (and other Weegie Words) when we first met.
