I think its really dependant on the armies you play. I've had really pointless games years back at the club, a huge heavy army completely ruined by a couple of bases of opposing horse archers. I'll likely never play the rules to the letter, more interested in using the army lists.levied troop wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 7:10 am I couldn’t get on with DBR, strange as I really like DBA/M.
I can’t recall if I’ve got those books still or I flogged them off. I’ll have a look in the stacks today, if anyone’s interested.

My experience was that DBR worked really well for Western Europe, ECW and TYW primarily, but came up with some weirdness when you introduced elephants and light horse, or anything that wasn't ECW and TYW really.
I suspect FoG Ren is much better as a more comprehensive set of competitive rules across the period, but not so good at ECW, YTW.

Played a lot of DBR and Fog Ren. Liked neither. Baroque was very good though.

I ordered Neil Thomas's Ancient and Medieval Wargames book through Abe Books. Should have received it by 1/9. Still nothing. Crap service from Gloucester Books, Abe Books and Royal Mail. ( You might guess I'm p*ssed off!)
There is no point in being stupid if you don't show it!

I know that you're a chap from this part of the world, but I thought you hailed from Suffolk originally.bangorstu wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 9:34 pmWell it's where I'm from - still got the accent after 30 years living in Wales...East Anglia. Splendid place. Enjoy.
Believe it or not I spent the first decade of my life (give or take) in Essex!
But the civilised northern bit .
Still, will be wandering around National Grid overhead lines again. First item: Walk form Needham Market to Norwich.
The daft things I do to afford toys.
Needham Market to Norwich? I imagine that's a lovely walk, enjoy. Roughly parallel to the A140? The road from hell in my view.

A82 would be my choice, past the Kings House, heading to the Aonach Egach, with a view of the Buchaille Etive Mhor.

Garrison Greek cavalry . Woohoo
Re: What are people buying?
I stayed at Kings House once. Miserable place.
Nice walking though. I was expecting the Devil's Staircase to be a bit more of a challenge.
