Re: Ayton 2018 Modernesque Skirmish
Unfortunately my Ebay user name means it would be obvious if I sniped them in the last few seconds

Are you going to paint them in BAOR green/black?
I have always been amused that the ferret was designed to be the lightest recce unit better protected than a jeep and the Rhodesians used them as MBTs.

Nah...that's what the Eland 90s were for Ferrets were normally used as convoy protection, flag wavers or anchor points for infantry/cavalry sweeps. Obviously being armed with just an MG severely limited their usefulness and plans to up gun them with a 20mm were abandoned as the recoil wrecked the turret ring! However given that the ACs frequently 'happened' on insurgents at close range the Ferrets were much loved by the crews because the Elands were useless in those circumstances.

Who is the 'official' (I use the term loosely ) organiser for the modernesque game? I'm never quite sure who I should be directing my queries to, about how many tanks I can use etc...

Re: Ayton 2018 Modernesque Skirmish
Could all players pm me their forces in the next few weeks, its fine if these change, just let me know. We need to start building the scenarios and it depends a bit on whats on the table. Nearer the time we can decide on terrain etc and who has what.
Reminder of the countries involved: Kumbahya is the "country" as H.G.Wells would call it, which shares its borders with Zumba and the Peoples Democratic Republic of Bongo. Zumba leans to it's Albion Commonwealth while Bongo will tend to lean towards Europan or more Eastern influences. However, generally speaking everyone is out for themselves ultimately.
My contribution should look like this so far:
Kumbahyanian Gendarmarie - 12 men, well tooled up!
Bongolese (PDRB) Regulars - 20 men
USSR Diplomatic Security - 12 - 16 men
The Israelis will keep back seat for now unless someone needs them.

Either Tim I suppose?
We've been chatting tonight via the telephone and we've decided on our usual toy soldier rules to keep things fast and simple, this allows us to be creative with the scenarios as they unfold and we are used to making rules up as we go to suit. Sounds chaotic but it's always worked for us. The last Modern Africa game saw us doing all sorts of crazyness. My lot were doing well until, high on khat, they stole a car and started trying to ram enemy positions. Didn't end well for them.
Norm is joining us. Please refer to him here as General Phillipe N'dahwehlaweh .
Re: Ayton 2018 Modernesque Skirmish
Excellent, i'll get the battalion of T62s revved up.
Re: Ayton 2018 Modernesque Skirmish
Factionwise and its only a rough guide it looks like:
Tim.W - Bongo, Kumbahya State Police and Soviet 'involvement'
Tim. H - Zumba, Mercenaries on the Albion payroll
Buff - Albion 'peacekeepers' as long as the peace is paying off!
Paul - South Eastern Colonial Force, Kumbahya Peoples Front
General Phillipe N'dahwehlahweh - Himself with whomever he can muster to do his dirty work.

If I get the Spectre Miniatures guys painted up that could be a start to the Generals suitably motley crew!
