They call it Fookin' Big Squirrel Day.

Seems reasonable.
Re: What are people buying?
We don't celebrate groundhog day in Yorkshire. There's no point, as every day is like yesterday which was like the day before which was like the day before which was like the day before which was like the day before which was like yesterday because nothing much really changes. Not round here abouts anyways.

Nahh this is yorkshire you are talking about. Not only do they wish today was yesterday, the wish it was 50 years ago when they had to walk uphill to school in the snow, after licking the lake clean first.
Re: What are people buying?
Ah, pure nostalgia there. Sigh. Sniff. And so on.
Re: What are people buying?
By happy coincidence, I received 3 of those modern text messages upon my wireless phone today, from my boys & that sister in law person, asking what they should get me for Christmas. After scanning the Spencer Smith 18thC page, I responded to each with a list of suggestions & Peter's phone number. Hurrah.
