What is your collection worth? Do you know?

Post by Buff Orpington »

This isn't me being nosey, I've just been asking myself the same thing and I haven't got a clue

This was prompted by Conrad Kinch's MW article. We could probably all create our own catalogue using a spreadsheet but would we tell anyone how to access it when we're gone.

Would your nearest kin have a clue about what was what?

It might be worth checking out the app that was mentioned in the article,
collectioncalculator.com
It could be useful for a valuation if you want to insure your stuff too.

We can calculate your collections cost Buff by looking at EBay gross revenue for the year

It's entirely subjective in at least one aspect, it is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. And there are so many variables. Is it 'modern' i.e. are the sculpts going to appeal, is it well painted, etc.

I once did a rough estimate for insurance purposes of the Australian Hoard, and stopped counting when it reached $10K I've got at least that in £ in my 28mm WW2 collection here. Probably a lot more.

Yep , and for many ranges painted are less valuable than unpainted unless the painting quality is genuinely excellent. Or if you are the person who does the pricing at Hinds.

I started filling in the app a while back and realised it was going to take a long time, so I gave up.

You should pick a painting standard and value your figs en masse at that standard, painted. Anything less and you are taking a risk.
