It depends what colour you normally undercoat. The actual primers for contrast, Grey seer/corax white/bone give a really smooth finish so the end result is slightly better. However I use it over a Halfords car grey primer spray and it works fine. If you use a white undercoat too, experiment and see if you like the results. The only time you'd need to re-prime in grey or white is if you use a black undercoat.

Re: Painting fur
I know nothing of contrast paints, but one way of toning downs the highlight might be to prime in grey or brown and then highlight, followed by the contrast paint.
Re: Painting fur
Thanks for all the advice. I'll slip out to a GW shop next week & give it a whirl.

You’re wasting your time. It’s an acknowledged fact that GW paints only work on GW figures. They just won’t stick to any other make of figure. It might seem so at first, but before you know it, they’ll have come off

Re: Painting fur
Fortunately I bought in bulk earlier, I don't think I can paint without it any more.

Re: Painting fur
Hard to paint with chafing nulns.
Re: Painting fur
It's far easier to use a brush.

I've been holding off finishing my velites as some are wearing wolf skins. Dont have grey or brown contrast paint but you've given me some ideas.
