Sort of a varnish thread....
But not about varnish per se...
Brushes... I always use a brush on varnish now. I don't shake the bottle prior to use. But when applying it I frequently get it bubbling/frothing. Even if I paint slowly. Use synthetic brush. Hair brush. Small brush. Larger one. I can clear it up easily but it's a total pain and slows down the process.
How do other apply brush varnish?

Always brush. After the incident with a beatifully painted Sdkfz 251 and a tin of spray varnish that wasnt.
If you are glossing shiny figures then you do want a nice soapy foam, shampoo it all in and it dries more glossy and harder than a light coat.
Matt then shake the buggery out of it and give a good stir if using Humbrol. Do the opposite of the gloss and just use enough to cover and seal the paint as you need it to. I have been using a light coat of vallejo matt on my recent stuff but only a light coveting to help protect the paint from handling really.

And use a very soft brush. I have a load of cheap ones I use once then chuck. Dont wash tbe brush out in white spirit and then use it for varnishing again.

Varnish should be stirred not shaken, unlike a vodka martini.

I use two. Vallejo Polyurethane Matt and Galleria Matt. Both are stirred (or rotated lots) rather than shaken.World2dave wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 12:11 pm That's why he does it in the woods.

I shake, rattle and roll my varnish and never have any problems. I use Galleria Matt but mostly Windors and Newton Gloss.
Have you tried a coat of Gloss and once dried a coat of Matt ?
