I shall now go all technical and note that the elephant in question, is the North African Elephant Loxodonta africana pharoahensis (which incidentally was only around 2.5m to the shoulder) or the Syrian elephant t Elephas maximus asurus.... (probably a subspecies of the Indian elephant so bigger).

Both are extinct so we don't actually know....

Sounds more like a Yorkshire elephant.....

All the ones I've seen outside zoos have been pink.

All the ones I've seen inside zoos have been grey. Is that because they tend not to dust bath themselves as much?

I think so - the skin is grey - Africa less so.

Fun fact - elephants don't have scrotums.

Well knowing weird shit about animals is kind of my job..... I'm an ecologist.

OK so herds of pachyderms don't often wander across the plains of the UK (any more....) but you pick up the odd thing along the way.

I mean I can go on about the frankly shocking sex life of the dunnock or penguin prostitution if you want....

A slightly less fun fact. Elephants are either right or left handed. Evidenced by one tusk being slightly lower than the other

I’ve been charged by elephants several times. Not as much fun as you’d think. Especially when the bakkie can’t maneuver between the rocks and there’s a lion on the other side with a dead warthog.
