On the washers thing, pretty much every electrical wholsaler should have them.
Re: What are people buying?
Tempted by L'art de la bibliotech saussison guerre.
Pros: Dbx basing. Like DbA but bigger armies. No endless companion books. 2 page ref sheet included. 300 army lists.
Cons: Why not just play DbA? Or Neil Thomas rules. Another rule book. £30 plus postage.

So like the Big Battle DBA outlined in the DBA 3.0 rulebook?
Which also has over 100 pages of army lists.

In their last sale a few weeks ago I bought The Welsh at war (3 volumes) and wargames scenarios for the Peninsular war

That'll teach you... selling books? A slippery slope, next thing you know, you'll be selling figures, and where will that end, I ask you? No books, no figures and no wargames, that's where!
Re: What are people buying?
£2 in a National Trust second hand bookshop at Attingham.
There is no point in being stupid if you don't show it!
