I recall a boys' comic from the late 60s (either the Victor, Hotspur or Hornet as I collected all three assiduously) that had a story about "The White Tigers of Mysore" and featured tigers being ridden by Indians as a form of cavalry-plus (the plus being the sort of teeth and claws most horses don't possess - outside of Norm's research lab, at least). Maybe a few tigers and a handler as a vignette?

There's also the famous near-lifesize clockwork "toy" of a tiger mauling a prone Company soldier, that belonged to Tipoo Sultan.

A quick search of my photo library has found just this one vignette. I'll have to try and sort out some civilian ones when I get a moment.
