Hammerhead cancelled

Post by Penda »

I've just seen over on Farcebook that Hammerhead, due to be held at Newark Showground on 31st July, has been cancelled. BoristheBarsteward strikes again!

He's not a wargamer. Probably plays Candy Crush.

Only if he can take it from a baby - I suspect anything tougher would be beyond him.

Could they not still have it, with masks, distancing, etc? Maybe too much effort, though it is - was - after the next final final deadline. Wonder if they had to cancel the venue by a certain date so as not to pay the rent etc.

Or if the venue took the decision?

Distancing is the killer. You're down to one customer near a stall at any one time. The number of people in the venue would be capped. Not much chance of covering the costs.

With issues, I personally am glad it is cancelled, so I will not feel guilty about not giving support.

Difficult decisions.

Surely you just put the wicker man in a hollow to create a natural ampitheatre. Not so much olfactory, but everyone gets to watch and you could use a PA system so everyone hears the screams.

I would not be surprised to see other planned events this autumn fall by the wayside even now. Events are run by club members after all and how many would be needed to police timed entry, distancing and such? I wouldn't have driven over from W'ton for just an hour in the show for example. Perhaps WMMS next March might see us back to normal-ish?
