I think he's always travelling against time, it's just whether he arrives on time anyway.

I suppose it is only 1837 in Ayton, so technically he’s early for all events

Subedai wrote: Mon Feb 26, 2018 7:31 pm I have noticed over the last few years that going to shows seems -at least to me- to be more of a social occasion rather than a meticulously planned assualt on the manufacturers of all things wargamey. I don't think I've bought a figure at a show in the last five years and most of my purchsses have been books, the odd set of rules, a fair few paints and sh*tloads of discounted mdf bases of all shapes and sizes. Which is exactly what I came home with yesterday apart from picking up some little chaps from EB, that is. I reckon that in this regard the internet and the sheer choice of manufacturer has possibly driven some of them away from shows because it's simply not financially viable anymore., especially for the smaller shows like Cavalier. I suppose my attitude might change if I frequented some of the bigger shows but even SELWG didn't really do it for me either.
This isn't going to stop me going to some shows, but since moving back to the south east, the options just seem more limited.

Does the panel find themselves in the same situation or is it just me?
Nope, I went to Vappa with a right wad of cash and brought most of it back, I did spend a fair bit of time with those above, planning games and generally chit chatting.

These days I'm finding that I'm just adding to the armies I have by accident or design ended up collecting, early medieval and WWII in 28mm. Impulse buying just doesn't seem to happen with me these days, I think I've learnt that it rarely ever produces any results.

About 6 years ago I went to about two shows a month all over the place, ended up quite showed out. Now I generally only make about 3 or 4 a year and make a good day of it while there staying all day soaking up all they have to offer.

Not purely on the topic but Joe McCullough has some interesting thoughts on the changes during 30 years of wargaming.

And every so often go out into the back yard, dig a hole and have a shit without a porcelain bowl. Wargaming is not really about exercising your limits, it's a game.
