Somewhat disturbing

Post by ochoin »

An order arrived from Tumbling Dice- Late Antiquity figures.
The Hun command pack had an unexpected inclusion:

Image
There were no photos of the contents on the web site so this was a bit of a surprise.
The captive is fine but the beheaded & soon-to-be-beheaded figures are a bit confronting but not as much as the impaled figure.

I use casualty figures in other games but I'm not sure I want to use all these. Too squeamish?

The impaler(s) seem(s) to have chosen the more difficult route of coming out of the rib-cage, rather than continuing up and emerging from the mouth, which I believe was the more traditional method (and certainly the one favoured by impaling afficionadoes, such as Vlad). This is either indicative of incompetence - or at the very least ignorance of basic anatomy - or was perhaps the result of some form of challenge issued, and accepted, within the impaling team.

They're your figures, Donald; use them/don't use them, it's your choice. Given the level of simian experimentation, hoover molestation, and wicker man rituals this group is capable of stooping to, I would hesitate to ask their opinion on a subject of this nature.

Nobody should ever suffer a moment's disquiet over the issue of toy soldiers.
So if anything relating to toy soldiers ever does give you a moment's disquiet... discard it lightly & easily, move on, play toy soldiers your way, be happy.

Or...

If you want an in-depth hand-wringing sesh about it...

May I suggest...

TMP is not the place it once was. Nor was it ever.

I think if you questioned the social validity of a toy soldier pose on TMP, you would be trampled to death by the mass of male Karens queueing up to belittle your manhood and threaten you with a premature demise. Any attempt to justify your views would, of course, lead to you being "dawghoused".

What crosses the line has been discussed on several sites - even TMP, I think.
IMO, these poses don't & I don't really want to discuss what would. The "4" as shown here would be more suitable for a diorama than a wargame, I guess. They are thus a bit redundant & "cost" me 4 useable poses. NB no photos or list of what the pack contained - just "Hun Command"..

The Baron is right. When I impale, I correct for the movement and ensure targetting on the throat.

Point (LOL... "point") about impaling was to avoid penetrating any vital structures such as the bowel or gullet.
So no 'in through the bum' or 'out through the mouth' for the real connoisseur.
Vlad's lads made an incision between the anus & genitalia and inserted a pole with a rounded point - intended to push internal structures aside rather than penetrate them and cause internal damage which would hasten demise.
The ideal was to exit between ribcage and collarbone without having pierced anything vital.
That way, you could set 'em up and they'd last for days.
