Getting over the the Wall

Post by Purple »

I’m wanting to buy some Khurasan figures which is all the way on the colonies.
I’ve not bought from these America’s before. Is there weird charges on incoming postage I have to be wary about?

Yes indeedy. And an anal probe to make sure you're not hiding anything. Or at least that's what the Royal Mail and HMRC charges feel like.

I was thinking of a small Khurasan order myself - which put me off because it's just not economical. With your inevitable over-indulgence it might make a combined order worthwhile...? I've ordered from them before and the service was very good.

You will most likely pay import duty AND a compulsory £8 "hostage release" fee to Royal Mail on anything valued at over £18 (I think). Oh, and that £18 is calculated to include postage, so if that takes you over the limit..... (And having it listed as a "gift" doesn't exempt you, either.)

This is before you get to the Khurusan owner who is weird (often unpleasantly so), even by American standards.

Best route is to find someone friendly travelling to the UK from the US and get them to carry it over for you in their luggage.

Easy question to answer this one.....don't.
BVW is right in just about everything he says, well on this issue at least.
If you must have something from Kurasan find a friend or relative in the states and get them to bring it over with them when they visit. This means you won't have to deal with the owner and the Royal Mail won't hit you with their dubious charges.

hehe...not to the best of my knowledge :)
I've just seen to many complaints about their customer service and, like you said, their postage charges outside the US are very high for smaller orders.
I had considered ordering from them, several times as they do some nice sci-fi stuff, but in the end decided I didn't need the higher than average chance of hassle.

The guy got thrown off TMP. Only two types of people get thrown off TMP - those who expose Mr Armintrout for what he is, and those who are so utterly nutterly even Mr Armintrout can't abide them. I think this guy fell into category 2.

And I speak as someone who managed to get along quite amicably with Mike Hickling, formerly of AB Figures.

He was removed for not just sock puppeting to support his own ranges, but because they launched offensive attacks on rival companies as well.

He was/is the infamous Larry Dunn who used to edit the wargames rules Wikipedia page so it only showed rulesets he personally liked.

He was also known for (and admitted) playing fast and loose with other peoples IP, IIRC, No worse than many other companies do, but he had a smug attidtude abput doing it.

So what your saying is that we need to build the wall higher?

This is most sad.
