Have a look at the Casting Rooms Miniatures sub site - scroll down home page for link. There are suitable figures in the Renaissance range. Different style it's true, but on the table in a game...well.

So you're not going for the Eureka "all the Gensdarmes you could ever want/need" deal? You do know they've reduced the price from £10k+ to a mere £8k, right? For which you get over 2,000 mounted figures capable of recreating every armour/barding/weapon combo you could think of. Well worth selling the car for, I reckon.
(Well, you did say you'd be grateful for ANY advice.....)
