Blau Wazburg Reich Army regiment Spencer Smith Figures.
Finished this regiment today Blau Wazburg Reich Army regiment using Spencer Smith Figures.
This is the first regiment I have painted using white uniforms, they were hard to paint.
Its hard to do an off white/linen uniform and have the white cross belts stand out in contrast as
the do in coloured uniforms.

Do a tan or very light grey wash over the coats and small clothes, and leave the cross-belts pure white.
Otherwise, spiffing job. Carry on, Number One!

I have done a figure using similar idea and it does looks better.
Thinking I will only do 2 regiments using white as I find painting white
on Spencer Smiths unfulfilling.

The other option is to use a light grey spray primer (nice and quick) and then dry-brush the clothes, but block paint the belts and trim on the hat. New Austrian plates of the Grenzer (based on the Delacre Bilderhandschrift) will be posted on Kronoskaf shortly, Willz. A lot of them date from 1748, so should fit your WAS figures nicely.
If "The System" is the answer, who asked such a bloody stupid question?

I normally use grey spray for French, Reich army and black for Prussian but I wanted to try white spray to see what
was achievable. The have turned out ok but the Spencer Smiths always look better when using contrasting strong
colours.
If I win the lottery I will get figures of similar style sculpted and produced in hard plastic and good detail.

Excellent stuff! Blau-Wurzburg are on my immediate 'To Do' list. I've got Mainz-Lamberg on the table at the moment, with a very similar uniform, but with one battalion finished the mojo has temporarily left me!

Cheers Peeler and RMD,
I am not sure if its the after effects of Covid or because its white but I found these harder to paint than all the other Spencer Smiths I have painted.
I am kind of happy with the paint work but not overly, thought don't tell the battalion as I want to fight well

Well done Willz - I find it counter-intuitive to paint my Austrians in beige coats then give them a black wash! Of course I follow this up by painting the crossbelts white afterwards and the cloth a mix of beige and white. Does seem to work though but wonder if Spencer Smith have enough recess in the detail
Good job though and keep em coming!

Mark, how would you like to paint up some grenzer in a modified Hungarian regimental uniform (pale blue-grey coats, white turnbacks and green-edged-yellow cuffs, and green dolman and trousers with yellow braid)? Or with kolpacks or mirlitons instead of shakos?
