Impulse buy of the wargames Atlantic Afghan warriors. Quite pleased with these although there is one pose I think is a bit naff and as you get 8 identical sprues of 5 warriors, I will end up with 8 of these out of 40. The arms etc go well together, and overall a nice bunch of plastic soldiers.

I use, 'To the Strongest' so can mix and match.

Biggest downside of S&H so far is being the marian, ceasarian, early imperial. But he is promising Carthage and Seleucids and stuff next.

Afghans assembled, they go together very well, I am just a little concerned the softer detail might be problematic with contrast paints. The pose variety is certainly good.

In my experience unless you're painting a large flattish area (when they don't know where to go and tend to pool) the good ones are fine with softer details. The bad ones, greens i'm looking at you, struggle with most things!

There are new ones coming out in a week or so which seem to have better all round properties, if you believe the reviewers, and i'll be picking up a few of those and the new shades. There are a few that would be good for the Pathans (I think) so they might be worth a go. The other thing that really makes contrast look better is a simple opaque paint highlight.

Thanks for the comments. I was thinking of undercoating white, plastering them with apothecary white, drybrushing white highlights and then adding contrast colours to the non-white areas. which then makes me wonder if I wouldn't just be better using a grey wash over the undercoat instead.
