Finished the first model for my Emperor's Children over the weekend. Did a bit of experimenting with the colours but I think he turned out ok.

Better than "OK".
I do like the subdued yet rich colour palette.

Re: Heresy detected
That's excellent!
Re: Heresy detected
Thanks guys, I'm just having second thoughts on the purple as I'm not sure if it's too dark. So I'm thinking of doing a highlight of silver mixed with purple.
Re: Heresy detected
It's only too dark if it's darker than you wanted?
Nothing some highlights couldn't sort out even then.
Re: Heresy detected
Just finished one of the regular marines and actually quite like how it turned out using this method for the purple. I could always mix it up slightly when doing another squad to give them a bit of variety, ie squads with darker armour are more battle hardened.
Re: Heresy detected
Tried out one of the new Leviathan Purple contrast paint and think this looks much nicer.
Re: Heresy detected
Looks very nice , certainly progress from the first one I think
Did you lay down a zenithal undercoat before using the Contrast?
It can make a huge difference and is really easy to do with a couple of rattle cans but with a dense colour like Leviadon Purple it's a bit less obvious.

Re: Heresy detected
One of my sons was given some of these figures and, as luck would have it, received a painting tutorial at Bovington soon afterwards from a woman who I seem to recall was called "The Brush Lady" (RMD will probably recall more exactly as the game he was putting on was right next to her). Patrick enjoyed it so much that as soon as his school broke up for summer holidays, he got his figures out and painted them straight away. He chose purple and green because they were the colours of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Club! How's that for heretical thinking!
