I want to say 1685, but it might have been post-WSS. Briefly reinstated in the 1750s, then removed again until the coronation of George IV in 1821, and worn ever since. An absolute bugger to swim in, apparently.

Ta ever so!

They seem to have been kept in storage and then brought out whenever they were deployed (along with skull-caps). I'm not sure if they were issued for the War of Austrian Succession, but they were definitely issued to the RHG and 3rd & 4th Horse during the SYW. I've also seen some artwork somewhere of an RHG trooper in the 1790s wearing a cuirass (over the coat).

Curiously, there is no record of the regiments of Dragoon Guards being issued with cuirasses, even though theirs was basically just a change in name (and slight change in uniform) rather than a change of battlefield role.

There were enough dragoons to provide horse marines.
