I've never had a problem using the mechanisms from boardgames, but I have a massive problem with using pieces of cardboard as troops. If it doesn't have models it's not a wargame. I suppose I'm a figure snob.

I'm with you on this one. I think part of the appeal is the scope of 6mm in that you get more of a battle than just a skirmish, especially for those of us who are horizontally challenged when it comes to table size. My 5.5 x 4 foot table is fine for a great 6mm, not too scabby for 10mm, a teeny bit cramped for 15mm, rather too small for a decent 25mm and don't even think about 54mm!

Plus , as someone else mentioned above, there have been some stunning looking 6mm games.

About two decades ago, a mate and I redoubt Eylau in 6mm using Napoleons Battles. Looked awesome and was awesome to play

Personally I like them, they have a kind of faux-Victorian charm like paper theatres. When I shared a house with a Chinese family we used to make paper theatres from kits and put on Shakespearean productions in miniature of an evening. I have a leaning towards the books with paper standups for 1066, The Armada and the AWI that are often advertised but I haven't taken the plunge yet.

Actually, I quite like them as well. I've looked at them and thought maybe...

My first thought was instant gratification -you cut them out and off you go.

Then I thought they could be used as a relatively inexpensive teaching aid for schools or other historical institutions that are strapped for cash.

I'm a board gamer (will my nerdery know no bounds?) and I often try to indoctrinate dice virgins I know into games nights with various entry level games. This generally just consists of me herding drunk lady nurses.
I also like hex / grid wargames! I'm even considering one as we speak!
I like 6mm (if it's painted by someone else)
And I like the little ingenious abstract mechanics that can be often found in different board games.
I also really like Jelly babies.
And wearing a tricorn around my house.

I got into wargaming via Avalon Hill's 1776 boardgame. I've still got about half of my collection. They have the advantage of being ready to play so much more quickly as opposed the time it takes to paint and base stuff for figure gaming. Nowhere near as fulfilling though.
