I did virtually no painting of Airfix figures I went straight to hinchliffe napoleonic's from Thornton's (not that sort of Thornton's) in harborne Birmingham seeing as I had a steady form of fiscal security (paper round). Then moved onto Essex 25's which i still have a major soft spot for.

Britain’s cowboys and a very brave zoo keeper were the first figures I played a recognisable wargame with.

Airfix Romans and Britons were the first army I actually painted.

First proper army was Essex HYW and my spot is still soft for them.

Mine was probably Airfix WW2 British, a totally ahistorical force with a couple of Bren carriers and a converted Quad as an armoured car. Next two were also Airfix - Ancient Britons and then a medieval army about 100YW period from various bits of Sherriff of Nottingham and Robin Hood sets. First metals were 6mm desert armour from Leicester microtanks followed a few years later by Peter Laing medieval.

Talk about showing your age !!!
