Your first painted army?

Post by tim.w »

I've been window shopping at the Newline 20mm sale for armies for TMWWBKings and just realized after seeing figures based in threes in the book that I have a sizeable British army for the Sudan with loads of various Sudan baddies. Mostly Essex British with Lancashire Games Ansar/Fuzzies in 15mm. It was the first wargames army I every really painted. Its not great but with a touch up could be ok.

I should be sorted with everything I need once I dig it out.

So, continuing the nostalgia vibe, who was your first?

25mm Napoleonic Russian. A mix of Hinchliffe and Minifigs. Although I had thousands of assorted Airfix before then I never really painted them so they don't count.

I had been wargaming for many a year before I had anything as grand as an army. First painted forces were WW2 1/300 and 15mm Medieval/fantasy.

Not sure which came first but about the same time I had 15mm ACW based up for the Airfix rules and 15mm Laserburn Imperials with a large contingent of Black Guard. All bought from Tabletop Games in Daybrook so the ACW may have been TTG.

1/72nd Napoleonic British using mostly ESCI figures as it was all the toy shops sold over in SA. We played the WRG rules.

Shortly thereafter, a 15mm Macedonian army using Minifigs, imported all the way from the Guardroom here in the UK. We played WRG 7th

This would be back in ‘89

For about 10 years before that I’d been painting up the Matchbox WW2 figures and making dioramas before the light of Wargaming was switched on for me

25mm Hinchliffe British Napoleonic Army, 1815 of course, bought from a long gone model shop in Walsall.
There is no point in being stupid if you don't show it!
