For me it's the whole process of prep'ing figures to get them to the stage where they're ready to paint.

This involves any or all of: de-flashing, base straightening, assembling, modifying, as least 2 goes trying to fully undercoat, and often basing/texturing too (generally for single figures and 6mms).

By the time all that's done, the original motivation to paint them has been somewhat dimmed. But if it doesn't happen on a regular basis, I'm left scratching around for something that's ready to paint - like right now! :(

Definitely basing. On second thoughts, rebasing. Both as tedious as hell. Necessary evil though, because the effort is always worth it.
Why us? Cos we're 'ere lad, nobody else.

Reading through this, nodding, and going 'yep,' 'yep', 'yep', and realising that there's not very much of the process that I do like... Except that final bit when the unit is finished and placed on the table. It's only then that the whole futile process becomes remotely worth it!!

De-flashing. I actually quite like assembling plastic figures and trying to get nice naturalistic poses. What I hate is when the sprues don't have enough basic parts, so for examples, British WW2 infantry squad sprues containing less than eight rifles.
Wargames dreams never die, they just get left in a box.

I'd forgotten how much I hate painting hundreds of little triangles on 'vandycked' hussar shabraques... 16 Russian Hussars done, another 32 to do... :(

Wolves' teeth, that's a bit over detailed.
