i use humbrol gloss all the time and not found an issue. I wonder if its the matting agent that is gunging ?

For a long time i've used Daler-Rowney as the best matt varnish - as mentioned earlier in the thread

Thank you gents.

That's the end of Humbrol for me. I'll try one of the other options suggested.

I gloss varnish with cheap enamel and then do an overspray of dullcote, works a charm.

I use Windsor and Newton gloss varnish and Vallejo matt varnish.

Not happy.
As said above, that's the matting agent and might be down to either a bad batch or the way it's been stored. In the old house I had to store matt varnish on the radiator as otherwise the 10 degree or lower room temperatures caused the agent to come permanently out of suspension. I had it happen with both pots and sprays, but was always careful after one early disaster. Not worth the risk of using as you'll either get the famous white frosting or at best a glossy finish.

Humbrols are for old farts because they expect to die before the tin is empty as a result of the toxic fumes. They also love raping and murdering the planet. Acrylics are what all the cool kids use. And vegans. :finger:

acrylic-only is so last year. Real cool kids are into a fusion of retro-chic humbrol and modernist acrylic exterior

I’ve heard Norm likes to paint with the blood, bile and faeces of virgin adolescent chimps, using their genetalia for paint brushes. But only on a moonless night in midwinter.

It’s how he perfected that shade of butternut on his ACW Rebs
