EB, Jaimie and I had an interesting chat with a model shop owner in York about the new paint legislation (which we weren’t aware of). Apparently in the next 6 months, legislation will be that all new paints have to conform and that they won’t have a shelf life of longer than 6 months unless you thin them with that particular suppliers thinning agent. Not sure how true all of this is though as I thin my Vallejo’s with water?
EB can probably provide more info as he was more involved in the conversation than I was.
If it is true, then it’s worth stockpiling some of the old Vallejo’s now.

Re: Paints
Possibly Spanish legislation, but never heard of it and we deal in Coat D'Arms.

Re: Paints
Nothing shows up in a search of EC paint legislation, the last directive was 2004 and affected vehicle paint supplies ( that’s 1:1 rather than 1:56 ). Vallejo’s own site doesn’t indicate any current issues:

Be interested to know, some of my paints date back to the last ice age.
Unless it’s a model shop owner wanting to shift older stock

I get lockdown, but I get up again.
Re: Paints
LT, I did have those same thoughts as he was slagging off Boyes for selling expired paints. I did point out that I’ve got Vallejo’s going back 7 or 8 years and are still perfect.
And EB was the only one of us who spent any money in his shop. On paints.

I can't remember what the chap was saying. I do recall thinking that he was talking bollox.
I bought some Humbrol enamel matt varnish......which, now that Jeremy has put a hex on it, I expect to be a solid lump of goo. I bought two more tins of the same from the other model shop today.....I suppose they'll be pants as well. Boyes was just round the corner. Same paint but cheaper. Doh!

Re: Paints
Boyes around the corner are always cheaper. Are you still in York today?
Re: Paints
On my way home now. It looks bleak, so I assume I'm still up north.
Re: Paints
You stil using Humbrol matt enamel varnish? I swapped over to Galer-Rowney enamel (very flat) matt varnish yonks ago, over a coat of gloss it's the mutts. (And a lot more cost effective as well.)Essex Boy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2018 1:36 pm I can't remember what the chap was saying. I do recall thinking that he was talking bollox.
