I suppose it's better than balls-deep.

I’d rather use their Mud and Blood rules as I think they’re a better set
I picked up a copy of these and their VBCW supplement so that I could talk about them to EB in a unusually informed manner. If they can be made to play well as a multi player then they'd get my vote ahead of Went the Day Well. (Unless we go home spun of course).

We’ve had fairly successful multi player games

Each ‘Big Man’ has a Card in the deck, and when that is drawn, he has a turn and can move, influence troops, etc. Each player gets a number of ‘Big Men’ and they take their turn when the required card is drawn.
If we limit the number of units and Big Men, with the randomness of card drawing, it should keep people involved.
It would mean creating a tailored deck for Ayton, but I’m sure we have enough talented people with time on their hands to do it!

There is also a WW1 version of CoC on the net, but I don’t know much about it

We only ever had 3 or 4 aside, with about two Big Men each. Depending on force size at Ayton, we could always modify it to be a player card, and he activates all the Big Men in his force.
Lardy rules are unfortunately a bit like Marmite, you either love or hate them. Being caught on the wrong side of them when you don’t go before the tea break, or your opponent gets several turns in before you do can put a lot of people off.
