Ian Smith a sad loss.

Gents,
this morning on Facebook Shaun Bryant posted that Ian Smith (Ians on this forum) is in hospital with category 4 cancer. Ian has asked for no contact and he has asked the medical staff not to inform him of their prognosis re. Time scales.
Shaun is a very close friend of Ian and is obviously devastated. I have known Ian through the various Wargame shows and facilitated him getting 40mm Naval gunners designed and printed. His photos on this forum show his wonderful collection and it will come as no surprise his displays have won best in show at Salute on two occasions.
I am to say the least shocked and devastated that another member of the Old Guard of gaming has fallen . His daughter is doing a fund raiser for cancer research here - for those that may be interested. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

I don't know if any of you new him but sadly he passed away yesterday, a sad loss to family, friends and the wargaming community.

Oh my lord, I'd seen postings about his demise on other wargaming fora, but I had no idea that Ian Smith and Ians from the F&D forum were one and the same. That is such sad news - I really liked his 40mm stuff, especially the Napoleonic landing party pictured immediately above. Another of the Partizan stalwarts gone.

That is very sad news. I interacted with Ian on forums a couple of times, he was a proper gent. I was lucky enough to see his magnificent ACW 40mm game at Salute, as well as his superb Peninsular War game. He truly strived to achieve perfection and quality, and in my opinion succeeded. A great loss to his family and friends and the hobby as well.

I didn't know Ian personnally only through an occassional exchange on forums but I just loved his work, a sad loss indeed. My sincere condolences to his family.
