Magnet and Steel

Post by tim.w »

Inspired by everyone's storage methods I was wondering where to get the best magnet sheets and steel paper from?

I want to line the really useful boxes, roughly the A4 sized ones.

Never used the second one, but I can also vouch for the first retailer - good stuff, fits A4 well, and fairly easy to apply (if you aren't a double-cack-handed so-and-so, like me). They'll be at Partizan if you want someone to pick something up for you.

check the magnetic strength though - it can be a lot weaker than you expect especially with 28mm metal figs.

I use the first named, not sure on the magnetic pull though.

It was alleged, but I deny it unanimously. I was merely watering the plants.

I use steel paper stuck to the bottom of my bases, and washers. The self adhesive paper is I think from one of the above suppliers. I bought a load years ago! I then wait until the pound shops have A4 magnetic print paper at (unsurprisingly) a quid for two sheets. I just PVA that to the bottom of all my boxes. They always survive the trip to Ayton but I'm not sure they'd survive the Norm Staircase Test...

I do it that way round as I read somewhere ages ago that magnetic paper can lose it's magnetism over time and it's easier to line a new box than re-do all the bases! I've no idea if that's true or not but I'm not changing now!

Happy customer of the first named for many years now. I base on steel and line my boxes with the magnetic sheet. I've found that the heavy duty stuff can exert such a pull on steel bases, even of 40mm x 40mm that I now use the tape so there is less surface area. I was worried about breaking figures trying to prise them out of their boxes.

Same here, there's no real cosmetic difference so it's better to ere on the side of caution.
