I'll admit to buying very expensive Winsor & Newton Sable brushes. This is after decades of using fairly cheap brushes that never lasted long, lost points quickly & even when new, made painting difficult.

Clearly, I've bought bottles of brush cleaner, re-fresh the water container regularly & after painting, re-shape the point by inserting it (you know where). Anything to prolong the life & usefulness of these expensive tools.

However, I caught this in passing: "Never dry your brushes with cloth. Use tissue paper or paper towels".

No reason given: is this a thing? Any light you can shed on this?

I’ve always used paper roller towel. Purely because it’s disposable

I suspect on cloth, the paint may dry hard and damage the bristles?

I’ve seen comments that cloth rags if used need to be lint free. Possibly to stop loose fibres getting into your brush bristles ?

Rosemary & Co sable brushes can be a viable cheaper alternative to Winsor & Newton for some people

I'd keep something like that quiet, it's very close to lavender.

OK, I'm in the market for new brushes. Looking at the Kolinsky stuff on Rosemary & Co, what types do people recommend? I normally paint 28mm and don't do huge amounts of detail..

I’ve got a Windsor & Newton Series 7 that has probably painted about 500 or 600 figures over the last 3 years. Possibly more. And still as good as new. I clean it every few sessions with their brush cleaner, I let it soak overnight in the bottle.

Expensive yes, but if it lasts a few years, then it’s worth it.

That's my thoughts. The break through was the new Eckersley's Art Supplies that opened down the road. In OZ, everything comes via expensive P&P so a readily available stock of W&N was a no-brainer.
