There's lots of theories and some discussions about why they were classed as fusiliers, and why they didn't wear the fusilier mitres, mate. I don't think there was much difference in average height between Saxons, Brandenburgers and Pommeranians (though most of the Saxon "recruits" didn't hang around long enough to get measured, in any case). If they'd been shorter they may have got the fusilier mitres. All the "new" regiments raised by Fred from 1740, with a couple of exceptions, were classed as fusiliers (and were regarded by the rest of the army as "lesser" troops) and the Saxons, despite their tricornes, got the same classification.by BaronVonWreckedoften » 19 Feb 2023
I must admit that I thought all the ex-Saxon regiments were made "fusiliers" because of their inferior size, compared to the normal Prussian recruits?
Perhaps the odd plate or two, mate. Nothing much, really.Spanner - did I see a certain Dal Gavan mentioned amongst those Kronoskaf sources?
