Hessen-Darmstadt grenadiers using Spencer Smiths

Finished these today Hessen-Darmstadt grenadiers using Spencer Smiths hard plastic AWI figures and back dating them using a
Zvezda head, paper strap for the backpack that has been carved to look an older style.

I used to have a few hundred of these hard plastic ones back in the day.

I bought mine from a house in Frimley. I got the address from Charge.

That would be Ronald Spencer Smith himself. He used to advertise in the back of Military Modelling.
I bought my first Spencer Smiths from him.

The hard plastic were the "Connoisseur" range designed by Barry Minot

I bought some of the Prussian / Hessian fusileers along with standard AWI marching troops and possibly Indians and woodsmen; the Connoisseur figures were in soft (brown) plastic like the standard range by this time.
Distinctly underwhelming at the time.....

I see they are carefully stored! ☺

The hard plastic Connoisseur I have have a lot of snapped muskets.
Interesting that nominally 1:72 heads work on 30mm, although the Minot heads are on the small side.
