I really love my SYW French army. They rarely win but they have colour, presence, panache.
Anyway, on display:
19 infantry battalions, 8 cavalry regiments, light troops, artillery etc:
The van, guarded by light troops:
A mounted dragoon brigade, leading the way, while a dismounted unit prepares for trouble:
The heart of the army, infantry brigades of line & grenadier troops, march on:
Elite cavalry ride on with some style:
Marshal Soubise looks proudly on:
The rear guard of a gentlemen's cavalry brigade & a line infantry brigade & the etranger infantry brigade:
Far too many figures but you have to like the flags!

A splendid assembly!
There is no point in being stupid if you don't show it!

Stunningly gorgeous.
I was going to wax lyrical about 1/72 plastic armies, but I see that the infantry at least are mostly metal Wodensfeld (and some Old John 'specials').
It's a beautiful, and perfectly formed, collection Donald.

Excellent display of fantastic plastic and metal 18th century eye candy, full of inspiration.

The cavalry & artillery are all plastic - Revell, Zvesda & Red Box. No one makes French SYW so you have to improvise.
You are too modest to acknowledge the Etranger battalions are figures YOU sculpted. You are a talented man, Iain.
i am just surprised you don't comment on the gorgeous flags.

Thanks, Will. I am not satisfied with the limber horses. Most are galloping & it looks silly. Suitable, standing horses in this scale are not really attainableWillz the Wargamer wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 10:42 am Excellent display of fantastic plastic and metal 18th century eye candy, full of inspiration.

- you can get a few if you buy this plastic set or that one,but I need about 26 of the beasts.

Remiss of me Donald, but I promise you that I did specifically note the quality of the flags. The whole collection is remarkable.ochoin wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 10:49 amThe cavalry & artillery are all plastic - Revell, Zvesda & Red Box. No one makes French SYW so you have to improvise.

Lovely work, Donald.
Where's v.Seydlitz and his kürassiere when you need them?

If "The System" is the answer, who asked such a bloody stupid question?

Yes, I thought I spotted more than a few "Wodentops" in there!
The wargaming equivalent of a Michelin-starred cheeseboard!
