I always spray prime my steel bases with a proper metal primer. Do peeps do anything when using coins? Had a discussion about PVA not sticking that well to bare coins?

Re: Priming metal bases
I've never primed metal bases of any kind. In fact I've scraped the primer off the upper surface of those pre-primed metal bases because I don't like the idea of sticking anything onto a coat of primer.
I mix PVA with cheap filler for the first coat on my bases. That's never come off yet without some persuasion.

Re: Priming metal bases
Is it the etch primer ?
Re: Priming metal bases
Use the same primer you use for your lead figures. This is because 1 and 2 pence coins, are made from copper plated steel and the coper coating has similar surface properties to lead, tin and their alloys.Count Belisarius wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 10:46 am I always spray prime my steel bases with a proper metal primer. Primers for ferrous metals, such as car primers, will not be as good as one designed for copper, lead, tin & aluminium.
I agree with EB about this:
A belated merry Xmas too!
Re: Priming metal bases
Merry Christmas to you to. And a happy New Year.
Re: Priming metal bases
I just use the standard primers. Black, grey or white depending on what i'm using it for and how I feel on the day
Sometimes...…..sometimes....I even use the red primer :o

My shinys are stuck on steel washers. I'm just undercoating in humbrol enamel as normal. Am I doing it wrong?
