Priming metal bases
Re: Priming metal bases
I used to stick the figure on with contact adhesive and then the base would receive the same spray coat as the figure

Re: Priming metal bases
I base on Wilko's washers, I lightly key the top with emery paper, tack the figure down with a small blob of contact glue (UHU from poundshop) and then run cheap superglue round the edges of the figure base. I spray prime all my figures with Halfords primer. Once the figure is painted I put a thin layer of contact glue on the washer around the figure base to key on the filler being sure to get to the edges. I used the same method with coins till I discovered that washers were cheaper and easier to obtain in quantity. My figures have led a rough life and to date I have had no problems with the bases or basing chipping or coming off.

Re: Priming metal bases
I use washers or coins all the time and have never found the need to prime them. But I use a plastic woodfiller for texturing, and that sticks to everything.

Because nobody makes triangular washers
I know when to go out
I know when to stay in
Get things done

Re: Priming metal bases
Someone asked me about the longevity of MDF bases a few weeks ago. I had to tell him that I don't know anyone who uses them for more than a year.
